John was born in eSwatini but raised in Mpumalanga. After school, he spent six years studying at Rhodes University, where he met his beautiful (and long-suffering) wife, Jennifer. John managed to leave Rhodes in 1995 with a BSc (InfoSys) degree and an MComm. After completing his chartered accountancy training contract in Johannesburg, he moved to Harare, Zimbabwe and married Jennifer. After spending three years in Harare, and four years in Cambridge, England, John and Jennifer moved back to South Africa. Until the end of 2019, John was an Associate Professor in the Rhodes University Department of Accounting. He found that the lure into the corporate world got too strong, and is currently the General Manager: Finance at GBS Mutual Bank. John’s introduction to apologetics was when he hosted Simon and Nel Brace and their family for a week. After a number of very late-night conversations and attendance at a few talks by South African and international apologists, John was hooked! John and Jennifer are blessed with two boys, Luke and Mark.
